Trail Blazers Hire Key Roles For Broadcast Team During '16-17 NBA Season

The Trail Blazers are expected to announce former Oregon State basketball player Lamar Hurd will be Kevin Calabro's partner for the team's broadcasts on CSN Northwest "during the upcoming NBA season," according to Kerry Eggers of the PORTLAND TRIBUNE. Calabro and Hurd have "worked together often calling games with the Pac-12 Networks the past three years." Since '08, Hurd also has worked for Root Sports Northwest and ESPN. The Blazers "interviewed such potential candidates" as ESPN's P.J. Carlesimo, NBA TV's Steve Smith and CSN Chicago's Will Perdue "before reaching agreement with Hurd, who lives in Portland." Blazers radio play-by-play voice Brian Wheeler, who has been with the team since '98, "will work solo" for much of the '16-17 season. The team also is "in negotiations" with former NBAer Brian Grant to "work alongside Wheeler for a portion of the season." CSN Northwest's Jordan Kent and Brooke Olzendam have also "been hired by the Blazers." Kent will "become the team's studio host and Olzendam will handle the sideline duties for both home and road games, along with pre- and post-game interviews." In June, Olzendam had "started as host of a half-hour weekly show on CSN called 'Sports Talk Live.'" That role "ends with her full-time employment with the Blazers." Kent "replaces Adam Bjaranson, who served as studio host the past six years." It is "probable" that Kent also will "continue to host CSN's 'Talking Ducks'" through the Oregon's football and basketball seasons (PORTLAND TRIBUNE, 8/31).
