With AT&T Stadium Landing Alvarez-Smith Bout, Has The Venue Become A Boxing Mecca?

AT&T Stadium will host the Canelo Alvarez-Liam Smith boxing match on Sept. 17, and the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM's David Humphrey asks the question: "Is AT&T Stadium the new go-to venue for boxing?" The venue also was "in the conversation to host" the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight in '15 before it went to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones referenced the ability to see a fight on the center video board at AT&T Stadium and said, "When you put a fight on and they're in that ring and they're about 6 feet tall and right above them they're 70 feet tall and you can be sitting 300 feet away and see their baby blue eyes, you can put a fight on." Humphrey noted it "doesn't hurt to have a connection with Oscar De La Hoya, who visited the Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif., and spoke to the team" (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 8/26).
