Facility Notes

In West Palm Beach, Joe Schad reported the Dolphins have "taken proactive, aggressive steps" to treat areas around Hard Rock Stadium with "EPA-approved chemicals designed to limit mosquitos" after an outbreak of the Zika virus was found in nearby Miami Beach. The Dolphins this month "have been treating the 265 acres of property" around the stadium, "including parking lots, as a precaution, and in the interest of fan safety." The club has "treated drainage areas, standing water, retention areas and other areas where it is determined mosquitos may harbor" (PALMBEACHPOST.com, 8/24).

IT WAS ALL A DREAM: In Atlanta, Chris Vivlamore noted the pending "major renovations to Philips Arena will not interrupt a Hawks season" despite the fact the WNBA Dream "will play the next two years" away from the arena and on the Georgia Tech campus. Hawks Owner Tony Ressler earlier this year said that the team playing games away from Philips Arena while renovations are done "simply is not an option." The "major construction would begin" in the summer of '17 for completion in '18. The renovations "will cost" between $200-300M (AJC.com, 8/23).

COURT REPORT: The Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday "ordered a lower court to reconsider a previous ruling that kept three St. Louis residents on the sidelines of a legal fight over how sports stadiums are financed." The residents previously "attempted to join an April 2015 lawsuit filed against the city by the public board that runs the facility previously known as the Edward Jones Dome." John Ammann, the attorney representing the three residents, "called the case important to get settled in case the city tried to support construction of a professional soccer stadium in the future" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 8/24).
