Raptors Unveil Two New Alternate Uniforms For '16-17, Giving Team Six Options

The Raptors yesterday unveiled a "pair of alternate uniforms" for the '16-17 NBA season, one being a "replica of the uniforms the Toronto Huskies wore during the NBA's inaugural season," according to Morgan Campbell of the TORONTO STAR. That uniform celebrates the squad's "70th anniversary, while the second commemorates the Chinese New Year." The new additions bring the Raptors' "roster uniform options to six: white for home games, red for the road, black for the road," gold-trimmed home jerseys and the two new uniforms made public yesterday. The last time the Raptors "wore an alternate Huskies jersey" was in '09-'10. The team plans to wear the Huskies jerseys for six home games next season, but MLSE Head of Brand Marketing Dave Freeman said that "deciding which six is an ongoing process that depends on several factors, including" rapper and team ambassador Drake's tour schedule. Freeman said that if Drake is in town the club "is more likely to wear its OVO-themed uniforms." Huskies jerseys "hit retail in early October, while the Chinese New Year gear will appear in stores mid-January." The jerseys make the Raptors the fourth NBA team to "commemorate Chinese New Year via their uniforms," following the Warriors, Wizards and Rockets (TORONTO STAR, 8/24).
