College Facility Notes: Oklahoma Stadium Project Should Be Ready For Opener

In Oklahoma City, Ryan Aber reported progress on the Univ. of Oklahoma's Memorial Stadium renovation project is "coming along as scheduled with the debut of the new-look stadium" scheduled for OU's game against Louisiana-Monroe. OU Exec Associate AD Larry Naifeh said, "On game day all of the seats, all of the restrooms, all of the concession stands, the clubs, the loge boxes, the suites, the fan decks, the concourses, all of those thing will be complete. There will still be a construction site going on in and around it, especially to the south as the team areas and all of those things are not scheduled to be complete until next spring." Aber noted the new video board is "the second-biggest in college football" (OKLAHOMAN, 8/21).

DEVIL DOGS: SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Don Muret notes as part of Sun Devil Stadium's three-year, $268M renovation, Arizona State, "in tandem with national sports architect HNTB and local designer Gould Evans, developed three midlevel clubs along the facility’s west side." Senior Associate AD Rocky Harris said that the 462 club seats will be "installed by ASU’s Sept. 3 home opener against Northern Arizona, but the three indoor hospitality areas supporting those seats won’t be completed" until '17. To feed those premium patrons, concessionaire Sodexo will "set up temporary buffet lines and bars in open-air spaces where the clubs will be next year" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/22 issue).

HALE TO THE VICTORS
: In Newark, Ryan Dunleavy noted Rutgers on Sunday "unveiled the new Ron and Joanna Garutti Strength and Conditioning Center at the Hale Center" in a private ribbon-cutting ceremony "attended by boosters, VIPs, school officials, football players and coaches." Rutgers said that the "final price tag on the strength and conditioning center" will be about $1.65M, and nearly all of it "will be covered by the Garuttis" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 8/22).

TOUCHING BASES: UCF Foundation Vice Chair John Euliano has donated $1.5M "for expansion and renovation of the UCF Baseball Complex." Euliano is a "long-time baseball fan who had two children attend UCF." UCF AD Danny White will "seek approval" from the UCF BOT to begin the renovation in '17. The park once known as Jay Bergman Field, in honor of UFC's former coach, will "be known as John Euliano Park when it is scheduled to open after renovation" in '18 (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 8/23).
