Newly released emails show major Clinton Foundation donors and officials "got VIP access" to HILLARY CLINTON's State Department office. In May '09, Wasserman Chair CASEY WASSERMAN, who has contributed between $5-10M to the Clinton Foundation, "asked for help on behalf of an English soccer player." The player's club, Wolverhampton FC, was set to come to the U.S. and the player was "having difficulty getting a visa for a trip to Las Vegas due to a criminal record." The player's name was "redacted from the copy of the emails released by the State Department" (DAILYMAIL.co.uk, 8/22).

STAY CLASSY, SAN DIEGO: THE MMQB's PETER KING and JENNY VRENTAS prior to Friday night's Cardinals-Chargers preseason game were "driving down what appears to be Mission Village Drive" near Qualcomm Stadium when they "decided to try to go around the lines of cars by driving in the lane designated for bicycles." Vrentas "was driving, and for some reason King decided to tweet about it." The post "generated many" angry responses (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 8/23).

NAMES: Basketball HOFer KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR yesterday appeared on "CBS This Morning" to promote his new book, "WRITINGS ON THE WALL." Abdul-Jabbar said of speaking at this year's Democratic National Convention, "It's a very important election. ... It's very important for us to become involved" ("CBS This Morning," 8/22)....Seventy-one of the 72 items being auctioned off from the personal collection of Baseball HOFer ROBIN YOUNT sold in SCP Auctions' online auction. All told, "The Robin Yount Collection" brought in $199,804 (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 8/22)....Warriors G STEPHEN CURRY’s mouthguard was also “reportedly auctioned for $3,190 by SCP Auctions on Sunday” after it was found by a fan at a road game in December. The mouthguard “has Curry’s name on it” (MERCURYNEWS.com, 8/22)....IndyCar driver and Indianapolis 500 winner ALEXANDER ROSSI “will return to his hometown" of Nevada City, Calif., on Sept. 1 for its annual Constitution Day Parade (SACBEE.com, 8/22).
