Players' Tribune Making Jump Into Feature Films With Vernon Turner's Life Story

The Players' Tribune has optioned the rights to the life story of former NFLer Vernon Turner and will produce and develop a feature film about him. This will be the first film project for TPT. Turner's story, which was published in May on the TPT site, details his journey to the NFL after discovering he was born as a result of his mother being sexually assaulted. Turner expressed regret in the online piece for the anger he had for his mother, who suffered from drug addiction and died when he was 15. Turner will be heavily involved in working with TPT to develop the film. TPT will work with producers Brett Gursky and Josh Surkin of L.A.-based Magic Hour Productions to produce the film. TPT has a deal with CAA to create film and television opportunities for TPT’s exclusive content. CAA and Beverly Hills-based entertainment boutique law firm Stone Genow represented TPT in brokering the deal with Magic Hour Productions. The film does not yet have a screenwriter or a title.
