Sending Our Best: Craig Sager Will Miss Rio Games Due To New Round Of Chemo

TNT's Craig Sager on Thursday said he will be "unable to cover basketball" at the Rio Games for NBC as he "began a new round of chemotherapy" this week, according to David Barron of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Sager said that the chemo is "designed to force the disease into remission so he can undergo a third bone marrow transplant in August." Sager added that he had "hoped to delay the procedure until after the Olympics." Sager: "My body isn't getting stronger, so they want to do it while I'm strong enough" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/29). In N.Y., Bernie Augustine notes Sager "hopes having the transplant now will allow him to be ready" for the NBA season. Sager was diagnosed with leukemia in '14 and the cancer "was in remission following a first bone marrow transplant." However, it "came back in 2015 and he underwent another round of treatment, only to have it come back" this year (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/29).
