Bubba Watson Partners With MiLB Team Owners For Candy Store In Pensacola

Golfer Bubba Watson's candy and ice cream shop, Bubba's Sweet Spot, had its "soft opening'' during July 4 weekend in Pensacola, but on Friday he "celebrated the official grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony," according to Bill Vilona of the PENSACOLA NEWS JOURNAL. Watson's first business venture as a Pensacola resident has been "so much of a hit that ice cream flavors have run low at times" (PENSACOLA NEWS JOURNAL, 7/26). Watson said, "It’s a candy shop: fudge, ice cream, candy, things like that." GOLFWEEK's Brentley Romine noted Watson co-owns the shop with Quint and Rishy Studer, who own the Double-A Southern League Pensacola Blue Wahoos, a minor-league baseball team "in which Watson is a minority owner" (GOLFWEEK.com, 7/26). GOLF DIGEST's Ryan Herrington noted Watson and the Studers "had been talking for more than a year about the idea of opening a store," and discussions "became more serious early in the year as everybody crunched the numbers to figure out how to make the place financially viable." Watson "appears to have been fairly involved with the place," as he "helped get the logo chosen by putting together YouTube videos that got the public to vote in an online poll" (GOLFDIGEST.com, 7/26).
