U.S. Cellular Field To Host Rare Music Festival Featuring Local Favorite Chance The Rapper

U.S. Cellular Field this fall will "host its first concert in 13 years," as Chance the Rapper will headline the Magnificent Coloring Day festival on Sept. 24, according to Danny Ecker of CRAIN'S CHICAGO BUSINESS. The event, which also will include Lil' Wayne, Alicia Keys and John Legend, among others, will be the "first music festival to be held" at the ballpark and the "first major concert" since Bruce Springsteen played there in '03. The lack of concerts in recent years is "partly because of language" in the White Sox' rental agreement with the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority that "makes it difficult to schedule them." The team can "veto special events that will occur within 72 hours of a Sox home game or 48 hours afterward." The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority and the White Sox "said recently that they've been more cooperative," which has "apparently helped grease the skids on revenue-generating events coming to the South Side park." The upcoming event will be "two days before a Sox home game" against the Rays (CHICAGOBUSINESS.com, 7/25). BILLBOARD's Dan Rys noted this is "not the first time Chance has partnered with the White Sox." Earlier this year, he "partnered with the team and New Era to redesign the Sox hats, which were released in a limited run of 2,000" at the team's '16 home opener (BILLBOARD.com, 7/25).
