Nike's New Line Of Michigan Apparel Uses "Amarillo" Instead Of Traditional Maize Color

Nike and the Univ. of Michigan have tweaked the school's traditional maize color that "will be featured on many Michigan products," including the school's football jerseys, "calling the color 'Amarillo,'" according to Lev Facher of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. The new jerseys will "hearken back to one of the football program's most successful eras." The $174M Nike-Michigan partnership officially begins Aug. 1. Official UM retailer the M Den co-Owner Scott Hirth said, "There's only one school using that particular shade of yellow, and that's Michigan." Facher notes the M Den will "open for business late July 31, in time for the midnight launch." The stores doors will "stay open for 22 hours," until 10pm ET Aug. 1. Fans will be "able to buy gear featuring Nike and Michael Jordan's iconic Jumpman brand." Nike Golf will "make its own line of Michigan products available at The Victors Collection, a higher-end apparel vendor adjacent to" the M Den. Hirth: "Nike's launch is not going to be a day. It's going to turn into a week" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 7/21). In Detroit, Angelique Chengelis notes there will be "300 Nike items for sale when the store opens but the football jersey will not be available until later in the week." Nike will have a "formal unveiling of the jersey and a signature training shoe on Aug. 2," which will "not be open to the public" (DETROIT NEWS, 7/21).
