Real Salt Lake Reinstates Media Credential For Local Columnist At Request Of MLS

Three days after Real Salt Lake "pulled the press credential" of Salt Lake Tribune columnist Gordon Monson, the organization "reinstated" his media pass yesterday morning, according to the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. RSL Chief Business Officer Andy Carroll in a statement said the move came "at the behest of Major League Soccer and in accordance with league policy." Carroll "informed the newspaper Friday that RSL was denying Monson access to cover matches, citing discontent with a pair of critical columns." The Tribune staffed last night's international friendly against Serie A club Inter Milan and will "return to its standard coverage of RSL moving forward" (SLTRIB.com, 7/19). In Utah, Ryan McDonald notes the credential being reinstated came after "three days of intense public debate." The club pulled the credential "because of comments Monson made" about RSL Owner Dell Loy Hansen (DESERET NEWS, 7/20).
