Quicken Loans Arena Ready For This Week's Republican National Convention

Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert this morning appeared on "CBS This Morning" from Quicken Loans Arena, home of this week's Republican National Convention, and said it was "pretty amazing" how the venue has transformed in just a couple weeks. The Cavs played the Warriors in Game 6 of the NBA Finals at the Q on June 16, meaning officials had the "shortest period of time that anybody ever had to get a convention together, and they did a great job.” Gilbert: "It’s not your grandfather’s Quicken Loans Area, that’s for sure. ... One of the guys here was telling me that fire-retardant floor costs $2 million alone. He said the short turn-around time was a “big contention when they were coming to us a couple of years ago to make this happen.” But Gilbert said, "Somehow they pulled it off” (“CBS This Morning,” 7/18). ABC’s T.J. Holmes jokingly said, “I think the RNC was rooting against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals because the farther the Cavs went into the playoffs, it meant the less time they had to get this place ready” (“GMA,” ABC, 7/18).

CALLING AN AUDIBLE: Tim Tebow last week said he will not speak at the RNC after having been on a leaked list of speakers earlier in the week. FS1's Colin Cowherd said Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign asked Tebow to speak, but he “never confirmed it and Trump’s people essentially (leaked) it to the New York Times to get some press.” FS1’s Jason Whitlock asked, "Why just take that leaked information and run with it without confirming with Tebow and his people?" He called an appearance by Tebow was just "hopeful thinking on Donald Trump’s part” (“Speak For Yourself,” FS1, 7/15).
