Sources say the Rams have selected a joint venture of Turner Construction and Hunt Construction to build their $2.5B stadium, the most expensive sports project in North America. Turner-Hunt beat Tutor Perini and the joint venture of Skanska-Webcor. The Inglewood facility is set to open for the '19 season (Don Muret, Staff Writer).
CIVIC DUTY: Penguins President & CEO David Morehouse said that the team is in "discussions with three major companies that have an interest in building a headquarters" on the former Civic Arena site. In Pittsburgh, Mark Belko noted the Penguins are "searching for new office tenants after financially struggling U.S. Steel dropped plans last fall to build a new headquarters at the site." The team has twice "delayed the start of an office component on the site." While Morehouse said that the Penguins "'intend to try to meet' the timetable for the residential development, he would not firmly commit to it" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 7/14).
POSITIVE INROADS: NYC FC President Jon Patricof said that there "hasn't been much progress made in securing a site to construct a soccer-specific stadium for the second-year MLS club, which plays its home games at Yankee Stadium." Patricof: "There's no new news on the stadium. We're working really hard on it. We're extremely committed to finding a home in the five boroughs. We're only gonna get to choose a stadium site once, so it has to be right. So we're working really hard to find the right site." NYC FC Dir of Football Operations Claudio Reyna said that "'positive inroads' have been made toward finding a site but provided no other update" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/13).
SNACK ATTACK: In DC, Scott Allen noted the Redskins for a second consecutive year will "introduce several new food and craft beer options" at FedExField. Among the new food items include red velvet chicken and waffles, a bacon cheddar sausage on a mac 'n' cheese waffle, a pulled chicken sandwich topped with jerk barbecue sauce, loaded mac 'n' cheese bowls, three different hot soups, a buffalo chicken sausage and General Tso's chicken served over white rice. Redskins Senior VP/Operations & Guest Experience Chris Bloyer said, "People wanted more variety" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 7/14).
