Ronda Rousey Hints At Return To UFC Fighting With New Reebok Commercial

Reebok yesterday unveiled a new phase of its "Be More Human" marketing campaign with a spot starring UFC fighter Ronda Rousey. The ad highlights #PerfectNever, and it subtly references Rousey's effort to come back from her first loss in the UFC to Holly Holm: "Perfect never gets to silence its critics. Perfect never gets a shot at redemption." Accompanying the ad are several Rousey-centered posts on Reebok's fitness blog and a sweepstakes for a trip to N.Y. for UFC 205 with a "glam to grit experience" (THE DAILY). In S.F., Carolyne Zinko notes Rousey in the spot “sheds a glamorous gown, hair extensions and fake eyelashes while walking off a movie set, and then is shown in workout gear -- a sports bra and shorts that reveal a muscular, but not model-thin body.” It is followed by a shot of her “knocking some air out of a punching bag, the Reebok logo with the motto: ‘Be more human’” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/13). ESPNW’s D’Arcy Maine notes Rousey with the ad “subtly hints at a return” to the octagon and “makes an argument that being imperfect might actually be even more compelling” (ESPNW.com, 7/12).
