Weekend Plans With MLB Comms Chief Pat Courtney: Fort Bragg, College Friends, Golf

MLB Chief Communications Officer PAT COURTNEY this weekend will be on-hand to watch the first MLB game played at an active military installation in Fort Bragg, N.C., but it will only be an appetizer of sorts. He and his family count the upcoming MLB All-Star week as their favorite of the year. “Things are probably at their most hectic time right now with the All-Star game planning and all the logistics that go into that. Plus with this Fort Bragg game we’re all really excited right now,” he said. While Courtney is looking forward to the Fort Bragg trip, he also appreciates time with his family on the weekends. “I love to play golf. I have 3 daughters who are very involved in athletics and everything I do in leisure times seems to revolve around a ball," he said.

CLASS REUNION: My family and I live in Pennington, N.J., and Friday I have some college friends from the Univ. of Richmond that are driving up to Connecticut. They are stopping by on their way up and spending the night with us. Then we also have some other college friends coming over to join us as well.

GET UP & GO: Saturday morning I leave for Fort Bragg. We have a whole series of events planned for the weekend, specifically our “Play Ball Summer” initiative. We will have events before the teams arrive and it’s really nice that both the Braves and Marlins have coordinated their schedules so that they’re getting into Fort Bragg on Saturday night. That way they will spend Sunday during the day doing a whole variety of community outreach around the base. I’ll fly back after the game and get home either very late Sunday or early Monday morning. Then I’m playing in a Fourth of July golf tournament at Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, N.J. That’s followed by a lunch there with my family then we will all go to a fireworks show later that night.

STEADY ROUTINE: I couldn’t tell you a day where I missed working out. I’ll always bring my workout clothes with me on the road, it’s part of my daily routine. As for preparing for the work week, normally on a Sunday evening I’ll be going through emails, going through the calendar, any sort of reading I need to do for the week ahead.

MAYBE MEMORIES: On All-Star Weekend, my whole family goes with me and the reason why is there’s a lot to do. Plus now there’s concerts too. My kids are so fired up for GWEN STEFANI in San Diego. My daughters have even made suggestions of who they would like to see performing. They feel invested and that’s always a weekend we look forward to.
