Univ. Of Colorado AD George Says School's Facilities Expansion Project Nearly Complete

Colorado AD Rick George yesterday said that the university's facilities expansion project is "nearly complete, with just a few small things to be done," according to Brian Howell of the Boulder DAILY CAMERA. One of the "last items was laying the sod for the new football practice field, and that was done earlier this month." George said, "Everybody is starting to get settled in, so I feel really good about that." George added that over the next few weeks, rails "will be added to the stands in Folsom Field and Coors Events Center." The CEC also had a "new sound system installed this summer." George said that a new sound system for Folsom Field "could be done" by '17 and that a new video board for the CEC "could be done within the next 12 to 24 months." George noted that the athletic department for the second year in a row "balanced its budget and will finish the fiscal year with a 'small surplus.'" CU also has raised $95M in its Drive to $105 Million effort, and George said that number "grows every day." Meanwhile, Howell notes the future is "likely to include a lot more football games" between CU and Colorado State, but there "won't be many more of those games in Denver." The current series between the schools will end after the '20 game, and will "take at least a two year break," but George and CSU AD Joe Parker are "working on renewing the series" for '23 and beyond (Boulder DAILY CAMERA, 6/28). Meanwhile, George addressed more fundraising, noting that the recent brick campaign that will "pave the new Buff Walk that stretches along on the east side of Folsom Field and into the Champions Center area grossed more than $600,000" (CUBUFFS.com, 6/27).
