USA Track & Field Inks Five-Year Deal With Supplement Maker Garden Of Life

Florida-based nutritional supplement maker Garden of Life has agreed to become USA Track & Field’s official sponsor and provider of protein bars, powders, shakes and probiotics. The five-year deal, running through the '20 Tokyo Games, is the company’s first marketing relationship with a sports body. Precise terms were not disclosed, but the deal joins USATF’s upper tier of sponsors, which includes Hershey, Visa, Chobani and Nike. USATF Chief Public Affairs Officer Jill Geer said, "We are really excited about this partnership, which meets our very specific needs as well as the partnerships we have available. Most specifically, it will have a very positive impact on our athletes when they travel.” Garden of Life's products will be available at the group's pre-Olympic training camp, national team kids and athlete lounges. Geer noted athletes struggle to find reliable sources of protein while traveling internationally. Garden of Life products are tested for possible banned substances and cleared for safe use by the Informed Choice Certified for sport program. They are also vegan, gluten free and organic. The deal with USATF comes as the company is preparing to launch a line of "clean" sports supplements by early '17. The USATF was not among the eight NGBs that signed a deal earlier in June with Thorne Research, a different supplement maker that sought USOC clearance.
