Arkansas' Athletics Budget For '16-17 Exceeds $100M For First Time In School History

The Univ. of Arkansas for the first time in its history is "operating with an athletic budget exceeding" $100M as it heads into '16-17, according to Tom Murphy of the ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE. Arkansas AD Jeff Long said, "It's the strongest financial position we've had in the history of Razorback athletics. We have had revenues of over $100 million in the past, but this is the first time we've budgeted for it. We expect to exceed budget in the revenues." Murphy noted the BOT has approved a budget of $105,736,950, which includes $5M to fund the "design and pre-construction costs associated" with the Razorback Stadium project. Another $5M will be "earmarked next year for the expansion." Arkansas athletics reported revenue of a little more than $101.1M for the '14-15 fiscal year, the "first time the school had broken" the $100M level. The school's '16-17 budget includes a transfer of $2.335M to the university, "matching the amount transferred from athletics to the university last year." The largest revenue item for '16-17 is "conference and NCAA distributions projected" at $37.5M. That figure is "up from the projected distribution" of $34M for '15-16. Projected revenue from football ticket sales is $31M, up from $27M last year. Projected revenue for men's basketball ticket sales is down 3.9%, from $6.4M to $6.15M (ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE, 6/26).
