Tax Returns Show Mark Emmert's Salary Remains Below The Power Five Commissioners

The NCAA's new federal tax return shows that NCAA President Mark Emmert was "credited with nearly" $1.9M in "total compensation" during the '14 calendar year, according to Steve Berkowitz of USA TODAY. However, in terms of the money actually paid in '14, the NCAA's "most highly compensated employee" was former COO Jim Isch, who retired last year. He received more than $2.7M in '14, including more than $1.6M in retirement and other deferred compensation. Emmert's base salary of  $1.41M represents an increase of a little more than 3% over his base amount for '13. In addition, Emmert received a $10,000 bonus --"the first time he has received a bonus during a tenure with the NCAA that began" in October '10. NCAA Chief Legal Officer Donald Remy received a $10,000 bonus as well. Emmert was credited with nearly $210,000 in "other reportable compensation" and $236,400 in "retirement and other deferred compensation." Emmert's base pay and total pay figures "remain below those for the commissioners of the five power conferences." Remy was the NCAA's third-highest paid employee in '14, receiving $825,000, including more than $680,000 in base pay. Eight other NCAA execs "were credited with total compensation of more than $410,000" (USA TODAY, 6/24).
