ComScore Rankings Show MLB Closing Gap With ESPN On Minutes Per User

ESPN led the comScore multiplatform digital rankings in reach for May, the 27th consecutive month it has topped the chart. It has a total of 77.3 million uniques, nearly 25 million uniques beyond its closest competitor, and topped all entrants with 5.6 billion minutes in total time spent. However, the battle for U.S. digital sports media supremacy, as measured by average minutes spent per visitor, continued to tighten up last month. MLB during the month, with its ’16 regular season in full swing, posted an average of 71.3 minutes per user, close behind ESPN’s category leading 72.4 minutes. The closeness in the average minutes per visitor metric continues a recent stretch during December and January in which the Yahoo Sports-NBC Sports Network topped ESPN in the same measure, and stands in stark contrast in ESPN’s continued, large lead in overall reach and consumption figures.
