Tony Romo-Backed Fantasy Convention Places Blame On NFL For Second Postponement

The National Fantasy Football Convention, headlined by Cowboys QB Tony Romo, has "been postponed for the second straight year," with the convention putting the blame "squarely on the NFL," according to Todd Archer of ESPN DALLAS. The convention in a tweet said the NFL's "blatant and continued interference has fractured beyond recovery our capacity to deliver the unique opportunities the NFFC had intended to provide." This year's convention was set for July 15-17 in Pasadena with players "representing every team due to be in attendance to meet with fans and sign autographs while fantasy football experts doled out advice." The NFFC in April was "granted a temporary restraining order preventing the NFL from contacting sponsors of the event." According to the request, the NFFC "felt the league was 'harassing' its sponsors and clients in issuing subpoenas seeking information about each company's role" in the '15 convention. That order expired in May. The NFFC "remains in litigation against the NFL" (ESPNDALLAS.com, 6/14). In Dallas, Jon Machota notes the NFFC sent ticket holders an email yesterday explaining that they will be "completely refunded within the next 30 days" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/15).

WAITING GAME: The AP's Schuyler Dixon noted "more than 100 players," including Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles "were expected to attend" the convention. NFFC Exec Dir Andy Alberth "stopped short of saying the event was postponed." There was "no mention" on the website last night "of a letter to fans announcing the postponement and offering refunds." Alberth: "We are exploring all options. It's been an uphill battle considering we're having to fight the 800-pound gorilla" (AP, 6/14). PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Mike Florio cited a source as saying that the NFFC has "sent letters to all sponsors explaining that the event will again be postponed" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 6/14).
