Weekend Plans With Univision Deportes' Juan Carlos Rodriguez: Party, Brunch, Soccer

With wall-to-wall coverage of the Copa America Centenario to oversee, Univision Deportes President JUAN CARLOS RODRIGUEZ has been on the go all week. This weekend he will be getting some much needed rest and relaxation with his wife VERONICA and their five children. “I am a huge workaholic, and I try to rehab on the weekends,” he said. “But as soon as the sun sets on Sundays, my head is spinning with work. Once everybody has gone to bed, the last hour of the day is devoted to what is next for the upcoming week.”

HOMEWARD BOUND: We are throwing a big party at home on Friday for some friends that are going back to their home country. Five or six families are going to gather for a good cookout. We really like each other, so it is going to be wine and laughter. I start complaining on Saturday when the alarm goes off at 6:00am. I will have my coffee around 6:45am on the way to go golfing with some friends. After we finish, we will grab a quick lunch. I will then go home and get ready to bring my kids to their Saturday sporting events. They do both soccer and flag football. We have two choices for Saturday night. My wife and I will either go out for dinner with some friends, or we will go to a movie and then take the kids out for dinner.

PITCH PERFECT: We try not to do anything on Sunday. It is pajama day until noon, then we go out for brunch. After that, we begin the prep school fight to see if the kids did their homework or not. I am a big fan of Club America, the most famous Mexican soccer team. I try to watch their games on Sundays. Then half of the family goes to church while the other half stays home to watch TV. We have dinner together on Sunday night before the kids go to bed around 9:00pm. I love watching TV with my wife after that. We watch series on Netflix. We are actually watching “THE BLACKLIST” right now. I am also a big “30 FOR 30” fan.

WALK THIS WAY: I really love to take long walks by myself throughout our hometown of Coral Gables. It is a very good way to think and plan internally. I am a terrible cook. My wife does the cooking in our household. She is very good with Mexican food. She is also very good with healthy, spicy food. Our family really enjoys it. We love the Italian restaurants in Miami and trying new places as well. Miami has a very good dinner atmosphere. We are big fans of visiting Nizuc in Cancun. It is an incredible boutique hotel -- gorgeous setting and gorgeous rooms. It is a great place to relax.
