People & Personalities: Albert Breer Breaks Twitter Silence After NFL Net Suspension

THE BIG LEAD's Ryan Glasspiegel noted Albert Breer had been suspended by NFL Network and "sidelined for the final duration of his contract." Breer in late April went on Boston-based radio show "Toucher & Rich" and said NFL Net was a "very limiting place to work." Breer was "already leaving" NFL Net for The MMQB and was "pulled off" Draft coverage. Breer yesterday "returned to Twitter" (THEBIGLEAD.com, 6/1).

TRENDING ON TWITTER: THE RINGER's Bryan Curtis profiled Fox Sports broadcaster Joe Buck, who "everyone in the industry knows" has a Twitter problem, and "most are puzzled by it." Within sports TV, Buck is "close to universally admired." But Twitter presents "a nightmare for a play-by-play man, whose telecasts can now be picked apart line by line." Buck "dips into Twitter occasionally." He will download the app "on cross-country flights and 'throw some bait in the water.'" Buck said, "I'm in a bad position to want everybody to like me" (THERINGER.com, 6/1).

VOICE OF A GENERATION: ESPN radio host Paul Finebaum defined CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist as "the most important and iconic broadcaster of my lifetime." Finebaum: "In many ways, he has been one of the most important and influential voices in college football history. ... When Keith Jackson retired 15 years ago, we all felt a loss. He was the voice of college football for many of us growing up and as we got a little older. For a younger generation, Verne has been it" (HUNTSVILLE TIMES, 6/1). In Lexington, John Clay wrote under the header "SEC Football Fans Are Going To Miss Verne Lundquist." Watching SEC football on Saturday afternoons with Lundquist doing play-by-play "was like watching the game with a family member -- a family member you actually liked -- who just enjoyed football and didn’t try to make himself the center of attention, a rare treat these days" (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 6/2).

WORKING OVERTIME: In Seattle, Geoff Baker noted ESPN football commentator John Clayton "will host" a daily 10:00am-12:00pm PT segment on KIRO-AM. He will be "replacing the Justin & Gee show that began airing" in March '15. Sources said that the station "confirmed that Justin Myers, one of that show's co-hosts, was dismissed on Wednesday while Gee Scott has been reassigned to other duties with the station." Clayton "will continue hosting 'The John Clayton Show' on Saturday mornings, which he has hosted since shortly after" the all-sports station's inception in '09. Sources confirmed he will "also maintain all of his national duties for ESPN in addition to hosting the show" (SEATTLE TIMES, 6/2).

NOTES: ESPN has re-signed its lead NBA play-by-play commentator Mike Breen to a long-term deal. He is entering his 11th season as the voice of the NBA Finals. Breen will continue to serve as the play-caller for the NBA Finals on ABC, the Conference Finals on ESPN, plus a premier package of NBA regular-season games, including NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC (ESPN)....Former NFLer Hines Ward has "a gig at CNN and HLN." He will be a sports contributor on "Morning Express with Robin Meade" and "appear on many other platforms" (MEDIABISTRO.com, 5/27).
