MusclePharm Pays Tiger Woods $2.5M To Prematurely End Sponsorship Deal

Tiger Woods' endorsement deal with MusclePharm "is over," as an SEC filing shows that the company paid Woods $2.5M "to terminate the deal that began" in June '14, according to Sean Zak of GOLF.com. The deal "earned MusclePharm space on Woods's golf bag for 15 tournaments from the day the contract was effective, July 1, 2014." Before MusclePharm, Woods "had bag sponsorships with Fuse Science, AT&T, Buick and Titleist" (GOLF.com, 5/28). The company in the filing said that from July 1, 2014, to March 31, 2016, the company paid Woods $7M. ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted the initial deal "was set to run through June 30, 2018, with an option to extend for another two years." It also included the "potential to make products with Woods' name and image on it, which never happened" (ESPN.com, 5/29).
