Franchise Notes

Padres President & CEO Mike Dee said that the team would be "open-minded" to talk with Art Romero, who was responsible for the "national anthem recording mixup with the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus," about rejoining the team after MLB concludes its investigation. In San Diego, Kirk Kenney notes there has been a "groundswell of support" for the Padres to reinstate Romero, who goes by the name DJ ArtForm and "was fired in the aftermath" of the incident. The chorus has asked that Romero be reinstated (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/26).

BUCKING THE TREND: In Wisconsin, Nate Beck in a front-page piece reports Wisconsin-based wealth management firm Windward Wealth Strategies is "competing against other Midwestern cities" to land a Bucks D-League team in Oshkosh, Wisc. The group has "been in talks with the Bucks for about a year." WWS President Greg Pierce said that his company would "need to build a 3,500-seat stadium for the team" to bring a team to Oshkosh. WWS has "responded to a Bucks bid for the project and will submit plans at the end of June." The Bucks are just one of eight NBA teams "without a D-League team" in '16-17 (OSHKOSH NORTHWESTERN, 5/26).

DINO LITE: In Toronto, Brennan Doherty reported Raptors fans have "been voicing their displeasure over T-shirts given out at home games during the playoffs." The free T-shirts -- "with designs of maple leaves, Canadian ‘camo’ and solid purple bars -- were draped over seats earmarked for Raptors fans at each of the playoff games." MLSE "ensured that each game had its own unique set of shirts." Two logos in particular -- "one featuring a grimacing snowball, the other a cartoonish beaver -- drew the ire of some Raptors fans on social media" (TORONTO STAR, 5/25).

YU TALKIN' TO ME? In Ft. Worth, Stefan Stevenson noted Rangers P Yu Darvish returns Saturday after missing last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and tickets "are going fast." As of Monday evening, "about 7,000 tickets remain with 38,000 already sold for Darvish’s first start with the Rangers" since August '14. The Rangers host the Pirates at 6:05pm CT at Globe Life Park (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 5/23).
