Minding My Business With USL Club Louisville City FC Dir of Marketing Adam Geigerman

Name: Adam Geigerman

Position: USL club Louisville City FC Dir of Marketing & Communications

Age
: 28

Where I’m from: Atlanta

Focusing on right now
: Anyone can read a game recap or look at a box score. But a lot of what we’re trying to do is show personality and create a personal connection between our players and coaches and city. We want to represent the city the best we can.

Best advice
: It’s a quote from my grandfather: "A jackass only kicks an electric fence once." It’s basically saying don’t make the same mistake twice.

Exec I admire most
: I’d have to say former Atlanta Silverbacks President & GM ANDY SMITH. The club is now defunct, but the things that he did to keep everyone positive and pulling in a great direction even though we didn’t know what the future was going to hold for us or the club.

A must for a new hire
: You have to show some hunger and you’ve got to be adventurous. I know that this can be a bit of a double-edged sword, but especially in pro soccer here in America, you have to do something that’s going to get you noticed. I tell everyone -- from interns to new hires -- that if you have a great idea, let’s try it. If it works, then you’re a genius and everyone else is going to copy your idea. If it doesn’t work, no one will talk about it after 10 minutes.

First thing in the morning: I have two hound dogs, so I have to walk them and get them out of the bedroom before my wife yells at me for letting them howl at us. Then I get started by drinking some coffee and watching either FS1 or ESPN to catch up.

Talking tech: We always use Tweetdeck. We have a Spanish-language account that we just started. It’s kind of a cool way to compile everything where we need it. Other than that, we just started using Slack as an organizational app to get everyone on the same page.

Must-have music: My wife is Mexican-American, so ever since we started dating -- and a little before that, because I was out in South Texas -- I got really into Reggaeton, artists like DON OMAR, and WISIN and YANDEL. Other than that -- and this is where it gets really embarrassing -- BLINK 182 is coming out with a new album so I’ve been kicking it back to my high school days.

Best book I’ve read this year
: I’ve read a few different biographies, all soccer-related. I read ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC's biography, and that was really interesting just because he’s a character. And right now, I’m reading a new one by DANNY KARBASSIYOON, the first American to play for Arsenal.

Food for thought
: I have to give a ton of love to my wife because she is Mexican and she can cook unbelievably. Chiles rellenos and just different kinds of authentic customary dishes that she grew up with and having her cook them for me now is pretty amazing.

How I unwind
: My whole life is soccer. I watch soccer games, I listen to soccer podcasts, I read soccer books. Other than that, I would say playing golf or going back to Atlanta to visit family.

Day in the life
: Game days are much more exciting than other days. I’ll try and get to the stadium as early as I can and we really try to schedule things out to make sure we’re on top of everything from social media to website to media relations. And when the show does start it seems like the fastest two hours of your life, going through the actual game.
