Sports Business Awards

Sports Business Awards: Turner Sports Wins Best In Sports Media

While accepting the Best in Sports Media award for Turner Sports, Turner President David Levy referenced the broadcast crew that was working last night's Thunder-Warriors Western Conference Finals Game 2. “This is what they work for,” he said. “This is what they care about. I’m humbled to accept this for them.” Turner was recognized for its innovative work, which included finalizing plans to launch an e-sports league with WME-IMG and buying streaming company iStreamPlanet. “We constantly try to innovate and change things, like eLeague and iStreamPlanet and some other things we do to make this industry keep moving forward,” Levy said. He also referenced Turner’s involvement with the NCAA Tournament as something that makes employees proud. “With our partners at CBS, we’ve built this out to make it the most innovative product on the marketplace, with March Madness Live, with the social scene it has, with the events that happen around March Madness during Final Four weekend with the concert series,” he said. “Having the championship game this past year -- for us to crown a champion at Turner Broadcasting probably was the highlight of everybody’s career at Turner Sports” (John Ourand, Staff Writer).

A WHOLE TEAM EFFORT: During TNT’s “Inside the NBA” last night, TNT’s Ernie Johnson noted the SBAs were going on as the broadcast displayed on-screen a tweet from the SBD/SBJ account noting Turner Sports won Best in Sports Media. TNT’s Charles Barkley said the award went to “all our great PR team.” Barkley: “Shout-out to our entire PR team. There’s a lot of people that do a lot of hard work to make us successful” (“Inside the NBA,” TNT, 5/18).
