Conor Daly Lands Primary Sponsorship For Indianapolis 500 From Colts' Pat McAfee

As his friend Conor Daly was struggling recently to find a primary sponsor for the 100th Indianapolis 500, Colts P Pat McAfee "partnered his new company, ShirtsForAmerica.com, with Dale Coyne Racing as primary sponsor for Daly’s American-themed No. 18 Honda," according to Jordan Wilson of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. McAfee said that his sponsorship "stems from a determination to see an American driver win the 100th running of the Indy 500." McAfee’s sponsorship also gives Dale Coyne Racing "partners for three of its four cars entered." His sponsorship "provides a platform for ShirtsForAmerica.com, a three-day-old company that raises money for military families." Shirts will cost $18 with 50% of the proceeds "going to two Indiana-based veteran organizations -- Wish For Our Heroes and The Pat McAfee Foundation -- dedicated to supporting military families" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/19).

TRYING TO BREAK THROUGH: USA TODAY's Jeff Olson writes the "question lurks in the background" if a woman will ever win the Indianapolis 500. That possibility yesterday "became even more complicated when Grace Autosport's effort to field a car for Katherine Legge fell through." Barring a last-minute entry, Pippa Mann will be the "only woman attempting to answer the aforementioned question." Mann: "First we have to get the sponsorship behind female drivers so they can race consistently in IndyCar throughout the year in front-running teams" (USA TODAY, 5/19).
