Sports Authority Auction Won By Group Of Liquidators, Closing Sales Could Begin May 25

A consortium of liquidators that includes Tiger Capital Group, Hilco Global and Gordon Brothers yesterday "prevailed in an auction" for Sports Authority's assets, and store-closing sales "could begin as soon as May 25," according to Alicia Wallace of the DENVER POST. Sources said that the winning bidders "topped a rival offer from a second group of liquidators that included Yellen Partners, SB Capital Group and 360 Merchant Solutions." A source said that the winning group agreed to pay 101% of the cost of the retailer's inventory, plus a $1.8M augment guarantee. Other offers ahead of the auction "came from competitors Modell's and Dick's Sporting Goods." Sources said that an auction for Sports Authority's store leases "will be held at a later time." Sports Authority's naming-rights deal and team sponsorship agreement with the Broncos was "not mentioned in the notice of successful bidding filed" yesterday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware (DENVER POST, 5/18).
