New Meaning Of Reading The Defense: Colts' Andrew Luck Launches Book Club

Colts QB Andrew Luck has launched his "very own book club" that will live online and periodically include "two new book suggestions," according to Dana Hunsinger Benbow of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. The first entry in the Andrew Luck Book Club is for "rookies" and will be a title Luck "enjoyed when he was younger." The second selection is for "veterans" and is something he is "currently reading." Luck will use social media to "interact with members of his club and will host live Q&A sessions to speak with readers." People interested in joining the club can sign up online on its official website and follow it on Twitter under the handle @ALBookClub. There also is a Facebook page "for readers to interact" (INDYSTAR.com, 4/25). ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted the first rookie book is "Maniac Magee" by Jerry Spinelli, which features an "orphaned boy who excels at athletics," while the veteran selection is Daniel James Brown's "Boys in the Boat," which details the U.S. Olympic rowing team at the '36 Berlin Games. Prior to the launch of the book club, Luck has "largely steered away from social media." Luck and his agent, Wasserrman Exec VP/Football Will Wilson have "set up a business entity for the book club." However, Luck said that "making money isn't a motivation." He said, "I just want people to experience the joy that I do when I read" (ESPN.com, 4/25).
