Marlins Give Season-Ticket Holders Option To Use Fingerprint Scanners Over Metal Detectors

The Marlins beginning with last Friday's game against the Braves are offering full or partial season-ticket holders the opportunity to "register for one of the two CLEAR Lanes, which will allow users to press a finger, scan a ticket and skip the metal detectors" when entering Marlins Park, according to David Neal of the MIAMI HERALD. Season-ticket holders will "still have to do the bag check," and their guests "will have to go through the metal detectors." The Marlins "make Miami the first city to have the convenience at two sports venues." The Heat "have been using it at American Airlines Arena since late January," as have the MLB Giants, Rockies, Yankees and NYC FC. CLEAR Head of Sports Ed O'Brien said that the company hopes to "be in 10 to 12 arenas or stadiums by the end of the season." Those already registered at one of the 13 U.S. airports using CLEAR lanes, a group that includes Miami Int'l Airport, "don’t need to re-register at Marlins Park." Marlins Park Exec VP/Operations & Events Claude Delorme said that "approximately 500 fans registered during the season-opening series" against the Tigers and he "anticipates 2,500 to 3,000 registered by the end of the season." Based on how well the program is received, Delorme said that it "might be expanded to individual game ticket holders next season" (MIAMI HERALD, 4/17). CNBC's Phil LeBeau noted CLEAR believes the ballpark "is much like the airport." LeBeau: "They can get you in there faster. That's why they are targeting professional sports teams as part of their growth in the future.” CNBC’s Brian Sullivan said with a “greater hassle comes a greater likelihood that people are going to say, ‘You know what, let’s just sit at home’” (“Power Lunch,” CNBC, 4/14).
