Jay Parry Joins WNBA As New COO After Roles With Mercury, Phoenix Super Bowl

The WNBA has named Super Bowl XLIX Host Committee CEO JAY PARRY its new COO, replacing CHRISTINE GODLESKI, who the league "said resigned last month to pursue other opportunities," according to John Lombardo of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Parry begins work May 2 and "will report to new WNBA President LISA BORDERS, who was hired by the NBA in February." In addition to working for the Phoenix Super Bowl, Parry was president of the WNBA Mercury from '04-10, where she "negotiated the first marquee sponsorship deal in the WNBA featuring advertising (a deal with LifeLock)." Parry spent two years with the Suns before leaving in '12 for Super Bowl XLIX. She will "relocate from Phoenix" to N.Y. for the WNBA job. Her hiring marks the "first major personnel move by Borders, who succeeded LAUREL RICHIE." Borders said Parry is "just what we need right now." Borders: "We are very much focused on growing the business incrementally and sustainably. She brings a lot of authenticity and more credibility to the support that the NBA is bringing to the WNBA" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/11 issue).
