Better With Age: Langer Gets Hat Deal With Wheels Up Before Masters' Final Round

Golfer Bernhard Langer "struck a deal late Saturday night with private aviation charter company Wheels Up" to put the company's logo on his the front of his visor for yesterday's final round of The Masters, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. The 58-year-old Langer, who has "been a Wheels Up spokesman for a couple of years," was in the next-to-last pairing yesterday. After seeing that his hat was blank, Wheels Up co-Founder Bill Allard called Langer's agent, Ken Kennerly. Allard said that Kennerly told him that Langer "had several lucrative offers from companies." At 9:00pm ET Saturday, Wheels Up "was told it had a deal in exchange for more free miles in the air for Langer." Allard said that he would "get someone to put a German flag on the side of his visor" for the final round. A local embroiderer was found yesterday morning, and Langer "got his hat for the final round" at 11:00am ET. Langer shot a final-round 78 to finish the tournament tied for 24th (ESPN.com, 4/10).

SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP: In Augusta, Doug Stutsman notes as of yesterday morning, many items in The Masters' souvenir shop "had already left the shelves." Most notably sold-out "was the CatStudio collection -- a uniquely designed pillow, hand towel and frosted glasses." The collection "was gone before Wednesday afternoon." Also gone were "some sizes in different shirt designs." The medium and large versions of "at least four Masters Tech golf shirts were not available" by yesterday at noon (AUGUSTA CHRONICLE, 4/11).
