Braves' SunTrust Park Set To Feature Zip Line Through Concourse, Standalone Concerts

The Braves are "working on" a zip line as the latest new attraction for SunTrust Park, according to Douglas Sams of the ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE. The feature is an "attempt to enhance the fan experience at the new ballpark," and it is a "part of many geared toward parents and their children." The team is "releasing few details" about the attraction, but the zip line "would most likely be behind the ballpark's video board and take people from one side of the concourse to the other" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/25). Meanwhile, Braves Exec VP/Sales & Marketing Derek Schiller said that the club has "already booked its first non-gameday concert for SunTrust Park." In Atlanta, Phil Hudson noted while the team "wouldn't confirm whom it booked," the club did confirm the new ballpark "will host standalone concerts, which would be separate from the Atlanta Braves Summer Concert Series." The Braves will "partner with Live Nation to develop and run a 53,000-square-foot entertainment venue" in the mixed-use community adjacent to the ballpark. The venue will "have an iconic Atlanta venue name -- The Roxy Theatre" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/25). Schiller noted the club will most likely have a concert or two at the ballpark as a soft launch before it officially opens for Opening Day next year. He floated possible soft-opening events as early as February or March '17 before the formal opening in April (THE DAILY).
