NFL Giants Not Raising Ticket Prices For '16 Following Four-Year Playoff Drought

The NFL Giants in a letter to season-ticket holders in February announced they "will not make any changes to their ticket prices" for the '16 season, according to James Kratch of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. A team spokesperson said that ticket prices "would remain" at '15 levels, the first year there were "across-the-board increases" since Metlife Stadium opened in '10. The Giants also said that parking "will remain $30 per game" for their eight regular season home games and two preseason games (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 3/25). On Long Island, Tom Rock notes the Giants "have not made the playoffs in four straight seasons and have had three straight losing records." However, this month the Giants "have spent what could wind up being over" $200M in free agency contracts (NEWSDAY, 3/25).

NOT SO FAST: In New Jersey, John Brennan notes the Giants and Jets this week "have been talking up the idea of another Meadowlands Super Bowl." But there "remains considerable resentment in North Jersey" about how Super Bowl XLVIII in '14 "was marketed and how costs and spoils were divided." East Rutherford Mayor James Cassella said, "I'd be more enthused if the Jets got to a Super Bowl, no matter where it was played, than having the game here again." Cassella also noted that the NFL got a $7.5M "rebate from New Jersey" to "reimburse the league for any taxes paid on tickets and parking." The N.J. Transit also said that it lost $5.6M on the game (NORTHJERSEY.com, 3/24).
