LA 2024 Partners With Snapchat; Bryant, Ferrell Join City's Olympics Campaign

LA 2024 officials have "partnered with Snapchat in a move they hope will further their campaign to position" the city as the "young, innovative choice" for the '24 Games, according to David Wharton of the L.A. TIMES. The agreement allows users of the app to "affix an LA 2024 'angel' logo to photos and videos that originate from select neighborhoods where Olympic events would take place." San Diego State Univ. marketing professor Steven Osinski said that the deal "probably will not lead to any big-money sponsors." But he added it could be "very useful for what I call the 'hipness factor.'" Wharton notes the LA 2024 logo "joins an ever-changing library of 'geofilters' -- digital tags that can be affixed to photos or videos so that people can show their friends where they are at any given moment." LA 2024 officials said that they "are not paying for the service" (L.A. TIMES, 2/25).

ROLLIN' DOWN THE RIVER: The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Ryan Parker noted Lakers G Kobe Bryant, comedian Will Ferrell and actress Jessica Alba are "among the stars who have joined" L.A.'s campaign to land the Games. In a nearly two-and-a-half minute video released by LA 2024 on Tuesday, Bryant, Ferrell, Alba and others "answer the question: 'Where will you be in 2024?'" Bryant said, "In 2024, we're going to be rolling." Among the "picturesque shots of the city are numerous interludes with children who say they plan on competing" in the '24 Games (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 2/24). Familiar scenes of the city's skyline and beaches "are interlaced with snippets of young people skateboarding, rowing and fencing." L.A. Mayor and LA 2024 co-Chair Eric Garcetti "dribbles a soccer ball down a hallway at City Hall" (LATIMES.com, 2/24).
