Strong Ticket Sales In Football, Basketball Has Georgia Tech Projecting Surplus For FY '16

Due to "strong ticket sales" in both men's basketball and football, the Georgia Tech Athletic Association "is projecting a net income of just under $750,000" for FY '16, according to Ken Sugiura of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. The original forecast "was for the department to break even." Georgia Tech AD Mike Bobinski said, “Our football numbers were beyond budget, so we exceeded budget there, and the season-ticket shortfall that we had actually planned for has been covered up by individual game sales.” Sugiura wrote the football sales "are understandable, as the team was coming off an 11-3 season and had a home schedule that included Florida State, Georgia and Virginia Tech." The basketball sales uptick "likely owes some thanks to strong support given to visiting teams such as Virginia, Louisville and Duke" (AJC.com, 2/15).
