FS Florida Fills Vacant Color Analyst Role With Trio Of Former Marlins

The Marlins and FS Florida’s search to replace ousted TV analyst Tommy Hutton "ended Friday with a decision to split the package" among three former MLBers with Marlins ties: Al Leiter, Eduardo Perez and Preston Wilson, according to Barry Jackson of the MIAMI HERALD. A source said that Fox and the Marlins "originally preferred to find one analyst to work the entire 150-game package alongside Rich Waltz," but some of the "most appealing candidates, including Leiter and Perez, were available for only partial packages." Leiter will "continue to work some Yankees games on YES Network and make appearances on MLB Network, while Perez will remain an ESPN analyst." FS Florida Exec Producer Brett Opdyke said that it is "undetermined how many games will be handled by each analyst or who would work the most, though he said Leiter is expected to announce fewer than 50" (MIAMI HERALD, 2/13). In Ft. Lauderdale, Craig Davis noted Wilson "enters his fifth season" with the FS Florida broadcast team, "adding color analyst to his previous role of pre-, in- and post-game analyst, after enjoying a nine year MLB career" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 2/13).

SOUTH OF THE BORDER: The Astros and the Latino Broadcasting Corporation on Friday announced a new multiyear agreement to carry Astros games on K231CN-FM. The announcement was officially made at the Astros annual Media Luncheon at Minute Maid Park. The station will carry all 162 regular season games, marking the first time that Astros games will be broadcast in Spanish on an FM station (Astros).
