Sounders Announce New Broadcast Teams For MLS Game Radio, TV Telecasts

The Sounders yesterday announced their "new pair of play-by-play announcers: Keith Costigan and Matt Johnson, who will voice the regional television and radio broadcasts, respectively," according to Matt Pentz of the SEATTLE TIMES. Costigan, a native of Ireland, "currently covers" Bundesliga and Europa League matches for Fox Sports. He will be paired with former Sounders G Kasey Keller in the booth and "will retain his roles with Fox and Univision" while commuting from L.A. to Seattle for home games. Johnson "re-joins the Sounders broadcast team after serving as a pregame, halftime and post-game radio host" from '09-14. Johnson "does not have previous play-by-play experience." The club also "confirmed its intention to continue its partnership" with KCPQ-Fox and KZJO-TV for its 20 regional broadcasts in '16. Root Sports Northwest will "continue carrying out-of-market games." This upcoming season "will mark the first time in club history with separate TV and radio broadcasts, having previously used a simulcast" (SEATTLE TIMES, 2/11).
