Papa's Got A Brand New Bag: Top-Selling Item At NFL Experience Might Suprise People

Aramark's 35,000-square-foot licensed NFL merchandise store at the NFL Experience in S.F. has more than 1,500 items, with prices as high as $49,999 for a 16-ounce gold "coin." However, the top-selling item at the "NFL Shop at Super Bowl, Presented by Visa" costs just $0.25, and nearly every customer is buying one. It is a reusable bag with an image of the Golden Gate Bridge, along with Super Bowl 50 and Visa branding. Similar bags were a gift with purchase at prior Super Bowls. However, local law here requires merchants to charge for bags -- a sustainability effort. So consumers at the store have to pay an extra quarter or carry away purchases in their arms. Additional bags cost $1, but they are not being sold separately -- they are strictly available with a purchase. Aramark Sports & Entertainment President Carl Mittleman said more than 25,000 bags have been "sold" since Saturday. He said while it was "not our idea to sell them," nobody is "saying they don't want one." Mittleman: "We know from past Super Bowls how popular they are."
