Marketplace Roundup

In Charlotte, Deon Roberts writes the Panthers’ corporate sponsors' "bets are paying off as the nation follows the team’s march to the Super Bowl." Charlotte-based realtor Allen Tate President & CEO Pat Riley, whose company has sponsored the team since '07, said, "These are the times that you (become) a sponsor for." Concrete firm Sakrete has sponsored the Panthers since '08, and Senior VP Eric Peterson said, "The exciting thing is the general awareness of what’s happening with the Panthers is at an all-time high." Sponsors indicated that the successful season has "boosted their businesses -- though they admit it’s hard to put it into a dollar figure" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 2/5).

COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT: ESPN.com's Paula Lavigne noted despite the "social media outrage over what some television viewers said was an excessive, even obnoxious, barrage of ads for daily fantasy sites," government regulators who oversee that content "received just about a dozen complaints during the height of the ads last fall." The FCC received 15 complaints from August through Nov. 24, during which time DrafKings and FanDuel "ran a combined 60,000 advertising spots across more than 60 networks" (ESPN.com, 2/4).

KOBE FADE-AWAY: FAST COMPANY's Dan Solomon noted Nike "worked with creative agency Conscious Minds -- and renowned jazz pianist Robert Glasper -- to create a farewell campaign" that still felt like Lakers G Kobe Bryant. The campaign is "called '11 Lessons From The Master,' built around eleven different messages that Bryant has for young players." Those are "being unveiled on the campaign's website, with each lesson being unveiled slowly, over the course of Bryant's final season." Nike tapped Glasper to "introduce the campaign" by recording an "original anthem." In addition to the eleven lessons, the campaign also "includes a short film called 'Be Courageous'" (FASTCOCREATE.com, 2/3).
