Michigan State Done With Nike's Lime Green Jerseys After Win Over Maryland

The Michigan State men's basketball team will not wear the Nike "lime-green uniforms again" this year after last Saturday's game against Maryland, but they will be "available for purchase at various retail outlets next month," according to Joe Rexrode of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. MSU was one of several schools Nike picked "to be part of its Hyper Elite Disruption line this season," but some fans "didn't like seeing MSU's traditional green and white swapped for a fluorescent color." MSU Dir of Athletic Equipment Dave Pruder said, "Any time you do something outside the box, there will be people who don't like it." MSU coach Tom Izzo after the game said, "I know they're crazy, but 17-year-olds like them. And right now, I like 17-year-olds more than 80-year-olds." Rexrode noted MSU was not picked to wear the Disruption line last season, but during the '12-13 campaign, the school wore Disruption jerseys "similar to the Pro Combat football uniforms" from '11 (FREEP.com, 1/26). In Michigan, Kyle Austin noted while the jerseys drew a "decidedly mixed reaction on social media," they "were a hit" in the locker room." MSU G Denzel Valentine said, "Those jerseys, oh my god, those were sweet" (MLIVE.com, 1/24).
