Minding My Business With NFL Network Senior Producer Andy Gregg

Gregg and his fiancée try to travel as much as they
can during the NFL offseason
Name: Andy Gregg

Position: NFL Network Senior Producer

Age: 40

Where I’m from: Atglen, Pa.

Where I call home: Redondo Beach, Calif.

Focusing on right now: The six-hour championship Sunday show that we have and then the eight-and-a-half-hour Super Bowl pregame show. That is a lot of content in a couple of weeks.

Best advice
: Treat people the right way. If you treat people the right way it just goes a long way.

A must for a new hire: Somebody who’s willing to just run through a wall for you and who’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. That’s kind of what I’ve done with the “GAMEDAY MORNING” team that we’ve put together here. It’s just phenomenal top to bottom.

Person I admire most: As a kid, it was MICHAEL JORDAN. Every Bulls game I was a nervous wreck. I wanted them to win every game; I wanted him to make every shot. But as you get older you realize sports stars aren’t who you should be looking up to. Now that I have a little perspective on it, I have to say my parents. My dad worked two jobs and at some point he would get a little bit of sleep. I would want him to play basketball with me and he would always make time to play. Just unbelievable work ethic.

Best book I’ve read this year: I’m big on true crime and autobiographies. The autobiography of SLASH from GUNS N' ROSES is unbelievable and it all kind of took place near where I lived in L.A. for 10 years.

First thing in the morning: It’s a shower and it’s straight to work, and then it’s usually three to four cups of coffee to get me going. Arrival time at work depends on the day, usually 9ish but we work long hours which is why we come in a little bit later.

Talking tech: I’m pretty old school when it comes to tech. I made the transition to the smart phone probably three or four years ago.

Must-have music: I’m all over the board. I love JAMES TAYLOR, BILLY JOEL, ERIC CHURCH, TUPAC, JAY Z, HALL & OATES. The music at our wedding is going to be all over the map. The last live show I saw was the FOO FIGHTERS at The Forum. It was great. (Lead singer and guitarist DAVE GROHL) was in a cast. He basically did the whole show sitting on a gigantic throne.

Food for thought: My fiancée is Italian and I love Italian food. There’s a place called Fat Tomato (in Hermosa Beach) that’s got really good pizza, really good chicken parm. I’ve done a better job this year. Last year I put on 17 pounds during the season and then lost it within two months after the season was over. This year I’ve maintained. I’m about two pounds up from the beginning of the season.

How I unwind: I love to travel in the offseason. It works out that I have a decent amount of time off. We’ll go back east, we’ll go to Florida, we’ll go to Hawaii. Last year we went to Maui and stayed at this really nice resort and it was pretty great. We’re going to go back for our honeymoon. A bucket-list trip for me is Europe. I want to do all of Europe.

Day in the life: As far as our network is concerned, it’s slowly becoming less of a TV network and more of a media group where everything is being combined. That’s where it’s headed, less distinction between TV, NFL.com and NFL Now. It’s heading toward all one big media group. You’re not going to have the traditional TV viewers like you’ve had. All that is changing.
