San Diego Reveals Final Stadium Proposal Ahead Of January's NFL Owners Vote

With a "color rendering of a new Mission Valley stadium and the title 'A premier home for the NFL' on its cover, a 56-page packet was sent to the NFL on Wednesday detailing San Diego's commitment to remaining an NFL city," according to Kevin Acee of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said in a statement, "San Diego has been a great NFL city for more than 50 years and we have put together a fair and viable stadium proposal to keep the Chargers here for years to come." Acee notes in its first 41 pages, the city's proposal "sells San Diego’s merits as growing, distinct market, summarizes the timeline of stadium efforts here, provides stadium renderings and outlines the need for a public vote to approve" the city’s contribution toward the $1.1B total cost a new stadium. The final 15 pages "include a cost summary, polling data and a draft of the city’s term sheet, which the NFL already had" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 12/31). USA TODAY's Brent Schrotenboer notes San Diego "wants more time, hoping it can put a stadium proposal on the ballot in June" for its financing plan that would include $200M from the city, $150M from San Diego County, $363M from the Chargers and $200M from an NFL loan program (USA TODAY, 12/31). In L.A., Vincent Bonsignore cites sources as saying that there were "no major surprises" in any of the three proposals made by the Chargers, Rams -- or in the Raiders' case, update (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 12/31).
