Year End

They Did What? The Moments Of The Year That Made Us Shake Our Heads

No year is complete without a few scenarios that some would like to have back. Here are some of the many things in ’15 that made us say, “Really?”

Right field bleachers at Wrigley Field did not open
until June 11
BLEACHER BUMMED: The Cubs in January announced that the renovation project to Wrigley Field’s popular outfield bleacher section would be delayed five weeks. About 2,000 season-ticket holders were given the option of receiving a full refund, getting credit for those games or having their seats relocated to the grandstand. The Cubs believed it would be wiser to make the decision sooner rather than later so affected fans who elected to be relocated to the grandstand during the construction could be accommodated before individual game tickets went on sale in early March. The left- and center-field bleachers eventually reopened on May 11, while the right-field bleachers did not open again until June 11. Construction continued behind the scenes until the team celebrated the full completion of the project July 3.

COLOR ME BADD: Nike and the NFL debuted their “Color Rush” campaign during a Week 10 Bills-Jets contest, but it introduced an unintended consequence, as some colorblind viewers were unable to distinguish between the Bills' all-red jerseys and the Jets' all-green uniforms. Red-green colorblindness is the most common form of the affliction. Some fans on Twitter said that Jets and Bills players looked green to them, a view exacerbated by the green turf at MetLife Stadium. The campaign covered four Thursday night games throughout this season. Instead of one team wearing a dark jersey and the other white, as the league traditionally requires, both teams wear primary colors of their alternate third uniform. The league was also panned for a matchup between the Buccaneers (all red) and Rams (all yellow), drawing ketchup and mustard comparisons.
