Brewers Owner Confirms He Is Committed To Rebuilding Plan In Letter To Fans

Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio has "posted an open letter" to fans "re-emphasizing his commitment to a rebuilding program that began back in July with a flurry of trades that sent veteran players away in exchange for minor-league prospects," according to Tom Haudricourt of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Attanasio in the letter gave his "own commitment to doing better" by fielding a competitive team and "one day bringing a world championship to Milwaukee." Haudricourt notes fans "want to know how long this rebuilding process will take to return the team to a competitive mode." Attanasio "acknowledged there is no way to know that." But he did thank fans for "sticking with us" after the Brewers went 68-94 in '15 (JSONLINE.com, 12/17). USA Today's Bob Nightengale said he liked what Attanasio did by writing the letter. Nightengale: "A lot of times you’ll find with ownership saying, ‘Well, if things go right we can win, we can contend.’ What Mark Attanasio is saying -- ‘Hey, we’re not going to win this year. We’re not going to try to fool you. We’re trading away guys for prospects,’ and put it out in a letter. They only have three guys who are signed to multiyear deals … and those guys are up for sale, too” (“MLB Tonight,” MLB Network, 12/17).
