Twins To Extend Safety Netting At Target Field In Wake Of MLB Recommendations

The Twins yesterday announced that they will "stretch the protective netting for fans behind the home plate area at the intimate confines of Target Field to the far ends of each dugout," according to Paul Walsh of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. This move "begins with the start of the next season" and follows MLB's recommendations issued last week "in an effort to protect fans." The Twins said that the distance from home plate to lower-level seats at Target Field is "shorter than any in the majors." Twins President Dave St. Peter said the team is "reaching out to season-ticket holders most affected by these changes." St. Peter: "We fully understand fans differ in relation to their opinions about sitting behind protective netting and will do our best to accommodate the varying preferences." He suggested that other seating options "will be arranged for those who wish to have a clear view of the field" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 12/17). The AP's Dave Campbell noted the Twins "already complied with MLB's standard of netting between the dugouts for field-level seats within 70 feet of home plate" (AP, 12/16).
