In N.Y., Dan Barry profiled Caribbean Baseball Initiative Chair & CEO LOU SCHWECHHEIMER, who is working to have a minor-league team in Cuba, “perhaps as early as 2017.” Schwechheimer “has secured the exclusive rights” from MiLB to “return professional baseball to Havana.” He has “obtained the necessary licensing from the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control” and has “raised considerable capital.” The CBI “owns controlling interests” in the Triple-A PCL New Orleans Zephyrs and the Single-A Florida State League Charlotte Stone Crabs, as well as a “minority interest” in the Triple-A Int’l League Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. LOVE ME DO: In Dallas, Barry Horn profiled Cowboys Exec Assistant to the Owner, President & GM MARYLYN LOVE, whom team Owner JERRY JONES said is more like an "executive advisor." She is the "gatekeeper" for the team's top execs. To get to Jones -- "in the flesh or on the phone -- just about everyone has to go through Love, who dutifully has her boss's after-hours business calls forwarded to her." Jones "cited Love's intimate recall of Cowboys revenue streams down to the last penny." She "parses player contracts before they go to the lawyers and the league." She also "can recite, chapter and verse, Jones' other revenue streams" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 11/29).
