Franchise Notes

CBSSPORTS.com's Jason La Canfora cited leagues sources as saying that the Ford family, which owns the Lions, is "aiming to land one of the more bright, highly-regarded minds from teams with a long-term pedigree of winning to fill their GM role." Sources said that some of the names "under strong consideration" include Seahawks co-Dir of Player Personnel Trent Kirchner, Packers Dir of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf, Patriots Dir of Pro Scouting Bob Quinn and Ravens Assistant GM Eric DeCosta (CBSSPORTS.com, 11/29). To help in the GM hiring effort, the Lions named former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi to a position on the club’s recently established Advisory Board (Lions)

BANNER DAY: In San Jose, Cam Inman reports an airplane "pulling the banner 'JED & 49ERS SHOULD MUTUALLY PART WAYS' flew over" Levi's Stadium yesterday prior to Cardinals-49ers. The banner was referring to 49ers CEO Jed York, and the plane "apparently was hired by a group of discontented fans through gofundme.com, which was hoping to raise $549 for the project and instead amassed over $1,059 in 25 days" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 11/30). In S.F., Ann Killion estimated that Levi's Stadium was "about half full" at kickoff of yesterday's game (SFGATE.com, 11/29).

BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA? In San Diego, Jeff Sanders noted speculation that the Padres were "gearing up for a color scheme change" for '16 has run rampant. A Twitter user  -- @SDHatGuy -- "claiming to be a hat store employee posted several photos of a New Era Padres cap splashed with the sort of yellow that adorns the Padres' All-Star logo." It is commonplace for teams to "have several versions for their hats -- batting practice caps, home vs. road options, dry game caps, etc" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 11/28).

GARAGE SALE: In Toronto, Steve Simmons wrote the Blue Jays are "going the garage-sale route rather than shopping at the better stores" for pitchers. Simmons: "I can't disagree more with the Blue Jays' off-season philosophy of restocking their pitching staff." The team has an "all-star lineup and, for now, a bit of a scrap-heap starting rotation." The Jays are "tap-dancing with middle- to bottom-of-the-rotation pitchers, gambling instead of looking for the sure thing" (TORONTO SUN, 11/29).
